These are Symbol 923 series 'Scan Engine' barcode scanner modules. Each of these modules is a completely self-contained barcode scanning system with mirror, laser, decoder, and a built in controller that reads the barcode data and transmits the contents of the barcode over a TTL-level serial connection. The 923 can decode numerous barcode formats, including UPC/EAN, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Interleaved 2 of 5, Codabar and MSI Plessey symbologies. The serial connection to the 923 is bidirectional, allowing for the scan parameters to be customized, and the module includes outputs for attachment of a beeper and scan success LED that can be triggered as needed. These are hard to find on the surplus market, and almost never appear at this price.
