The Varian V-153 is a mechanically tuned 9500MHz low power reflex klystron. Tuning is acomplished by a screw and lever arrangement on the right side of the device that varies the length of the cavity. Unlike most tubes of this type, which have an anode cap and three pin base, the V-153 has permanently attached flying leads that terminate in a cannon connector. Though this tube has a maximum operating wattage of approximately 18 watts, forced air cooling is required for input ranges of more than 10 watts. The example shown here was produced in 1965.

The waveguide connection on the V-153 is protected by a plastic cap when shipped from the factory.
