The Texas Instruments 2N3045 is a dual transistor in a very unusual package; a 10 pin TO-89 gold flatpack IC carrier. Each side contains a 2N930 planar silicon transistor, the unorthodox TO-89 packaging was done to allow higher density PCB layouts than would be possible with discrete 2N930s. Since only six leads are needed for a transistor pair, the extra leads have been omitted during the manufacturing process. The 2N3045 example shown here was made in 1964.
