The RL-7 is an early LED indicator produced by Litronix. In construction this device appears similar to the Monsanto MV1 or MV2, though the die is noticeably brighter. This device also has a significant reduction in gold content: the metal can of the MV1 has been replaced by a shallow metal base. The RL-7 is rated for approximately 1.5mcd of light output, which makes it usable as an indicator, though its light output is easily rendered undetectable in a well lit room. The frosted epoxy construction makes this a much more usable indicator than the MV1, though it unfortunately prevents any microscopic examination of the die. The RL-7 is believed to have been released sometime prior to 1974.
Litronix also made a red epoxy version of the RL-7; the RL 7-01. The RL 7-01 has a frosted red epoxy lens instead of a uncolored lens, but is otherwise identical.

Other than the colors of their epoxy coatings, the RL-7 and RL-7-01 appear to be identical.

The RL-7 has a light output of approximately 1.5mcd.
